Child admission policy

The supervision and safety arrangements for children visiting LeisureWorld.

Public swimming supervision

  • Children under 10: a responsible adult aged 18 or over must be in the water, with no more than two children per adult.
  • Children aged 10–12: a responsible adult aged 18 or over must remain in the building.
  • Watching from the gallery or poolside does not meet an in-water supervision requirement.
  • Children must be supervised by a responsible adult while in the centre. Follow staff instructions and the rules for each activity.

These age bands were confirmed by LeisureWorld for this website on 16 September 2026.

Lessons, camps and teen gym

A parent or guardian must remain on site throughout swimming lessons. Parents and guardians keep primary responsibility for children unless they are signed into a programmed activity.

Lesson supervision depends on ability and water depth. The published ratios are one teacher to eight children at levels 1–2, ten at level 3, and twelve at levels 4–6.

Camps and groups must provide a participant list. The published staffing ratio is two leaders to 25 children for dry activities and pool activities, in addition to lifeguards for pool activities. Camp participants receive a safety briefing before their first pool session.

Teens must complete a gym safety induction before using the gym or attending fitness classes. Teen sessions are for ages 13–15; student gym and swim sessions are available from age 16. Read the teen gym introduction before booking.

Health and preparation

  • Children participating in activities need a completed screening or health declaration form.
  • Parents should tell the team about relevant medical conditions or additional support needs.
  • Everyone must shower before entering the pool deck.
  • The child admission policy requires 48 hours clear of symptoms after a standard illness, and 14 days clear of symptoms after a confirmed waterborne infection. Ask your centre if you are unsure when it is appropriate to return.
  • Drugs, alcohol and aggressive or antisocial behaviour are not permitted. Management may refuse entry or remove people who do not follow safety rules.

This policy applies to minors, parents, guardians and staff. It is reviewed annually, or earlier if required.

Planning a visit

Tell us about any support needs before visiting so the team can help you plan. For other entry conditions, read the general admission policy.
